The first-ever “Kicking for Miracles” event, hosted by World Class Tae Kwon Do in San Jose, was held on December 15, 2012. Tae Kwon Do students of all ages participated in breaking one thousand boards to raise important funds for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. With their hard work, they raised over $10,000 for our patients and families! Thank you World Class Tae Kwon Do for being our community heroes!

Pamela Sroka, School Manager: Welcome everyone to the first annual “Kicking for Miracles.” Together, as a Tae Kwon Do family, we’ve been able to help other boys and girls who need our help at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

Thomas Sroka, Head Instructor: Mrs. Betts is a mom of one of our Tae Kwon Do students, Michael, and she has a few words to say about her experience with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. Betts: My son (who is now 7) at 3 and a half months was severely injured and had to have an emergency craniotomy at a local hospital. For 2 and a half years he had to wear a helmet all the time. The pediatrician recommended his case to Lucile Packard and they did the surgery.

Not only does my son have a plate that fits perfectly because it was custom built for him, but this artificial plate will always stay in there and he will never, ever, ever have to have another surgery. When Dr. Edwards came out to tell us that the surgery was over and it was a success, I said, “Well, how much longer should he wear his helmet?” And Dr. Edwards said, “Throw it away– never, ever again. For this, I want to thank you guys. Thank you.”

Thomas Sroka, Head Instructor: What was our goal for “Kicking for Miracles” — how much money did we want to raise? $10,000. And because every single one of you here, I know you put in your hard work and your hard effort and because you took the time to make a difference, I would like to present this check on behalf of World Class Tae Kwon Do in the amount of $12,000.
