Formerly conjoined twins reach major milestone

Sandoval Twins

We recently checked in on the Sandoval twins of Antelope Valley, California. The girls, Erika and Eva, who are now 4-years-old, are smiling big as ever, according to their mom, Aida Sandoval.

Aida says, “We had a busy and wonderful summer, and it’s been amazing watching these two coming into their own persons. They are TOTAL opposites! Erika loves to please and is always smiling, but she is also very adamant when she wants something! She still loves her Toy Story and Cars characters. Eva is bashful until she is comfortable with you and then she is a chatterbox! She can’t get enough of Selena and all things princess.”

A major development since the girls left Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford after their separation surgery in December 2016 is that they have each received a custom prosthetic device at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California. These devices are allowing them to walk and play upright on their feet rather than scooting on the floor.

The twins’ post-separation story was captured by ABC’s Nightline in 2017, and the episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Feature Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast.

Such an amazing thing to see before going to bed tonight on ABC nightly news. You are such strong independent big girls and I am so happy you two are reaching milestones above and beyond expectations. God is good, all the time. Merry Christmas mom and dad.
