Remembering Willie Mays

For 14 years, Willie Mays, the “Say Hey Kid” and San Francisco Giants legend, cheered on kids at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Every holiday season, he made a special stop to hand out autographed baseballs to young patients and staff, continuing a long-standing tradition. The hospital’s archives feature heartwarming photos of Mays’ visits over the years.

The Stanford Medicine community mourns the loss of the Hall of Fame center fielder and 24-time All-Star, who died on June 18. He was 93.

As a lifelong Dodger fan, Willie Mays made my life miserable in a very good way. Nothing but love and respect for the greatest player of all time.
