Congratulations to Stanford Medicine Children’s Health for receiving a 2024 CIO 100 Award for the Oncology Electronic Roadmaps digital platform. The annual CIO 100 Awards celebrate 100 organizations and the teams within them that use Information Technology (IT) in innovative ways to deliver value by optimizing business processes, enabling growth, or improving relationships with customers. The award is an acknowledged mark of enterprise excellence.
The Oncology Electronic Roadmaps digital platform has had a truly transformative impact at Stanford Children’s. This unique, innovative platform offers efficient, accessible, and streamlined processes which have contributed to a significant improvement in overall quality care, patient safety, and compliance. Prior to this tool, the Bass Center oncology team utilized a smaller set of paper roadmaps which caused barriers to efficient patient care due to displacement during patient transitions, clerical filing errors, and prolonged wait times for charts resulting in patient care delays. In addition, modernization of internet browser technologies rendered scanned versions of the paper forms inaccessible.
With approximately 50 faculty members, 20 nurse practitioners, 200 nurses, and 10 oncology pharmacists needing daily access to the roadmaps, there was a prime opportunity to leverage a digital solution that would alleviate these pain points. Together, the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Digi-IS Web Services and Clinical Applications teams, along with clinical partners from oncology and pharmacy, collaborated to develop a solution on our Connect Anywhere enterprise platform, accessible from the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The team now utilizes a robust set of over 1,470 patient-specific electronic oncology roadmaps that have benefitted 650 plus patients since go-live, increased care coordination, enhanced patient outcomes, and led to greater clinician satisfaction.
Tanya Townsend, SVP and Chief Information and Digital Officer for Stanford Children’s said, “The CIO 100 Award is a prestigious honor. It highlights our advancements in digital technology, strong partnerships with clinical leaders, and commitment to continuously improving patient outcomes.”
In August 2024, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health will receive the Award at the CIO 100 Symposium in Colorado.
