That’s why patient rooms at Packard Children’s have been designed with large windows overlooking the gardens and landscaping, and public spaces feature large glass windows and sliding doors to access outside decks and patios.
“Natural light is an important part of the healing process,” says Colette Case, director of Child and Family Life Services, “so we have made sure natural light has been fully integrated into the new design as part of creating a healing environment. Being able to see the outdoors helps provide a sense of calmness and positive energy.”
Access to daylight and views of nature also help reduce mental and physical strain on physicians, nurses and staff, making a demanding profession a little easier. Views of the outdoors have been associated with improved mood, enhanced morale, lower fatigue and reduced eyestrain.
