While many college students take time to relax during the summer months, Stanford juniors Nick Abram and Chris Min are hitting the road. Tomorrow morning, Abram and Min will embark on a 60-day, cross-country cycling trip to raise funds for the Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
With little biking experience, Abram and Min describe themselves as “the perfect team: two bad bikers battling cancer one mile at a time.”
What they lack in biking experience, they more than make up with dedication to their cause. Abram and Min both have deep, family connections to cancer. Abram, a Product Design major, lost his mother to pancreatic cancer last year after a three-year battle. His ride is a tribute to her life and legacy.
“I want to be able to understand the fight she endured,” Abram says.
Min, an Economics major with minors in Computer Science and Creative Writing, rides to honor his grandfather who passed away from lung cancer during Min’s eighth grade year.
“We believe everyone—especially children—should receive the love and attention that our loved ones received as they fought against cancer,” says Min.
They will depart Tuesday, July 9 at 10:00am from the front entrance of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Their journey will end approximately two months from now in Durham, North Carolina.
Proceeds from Abram and Min’s ride will benefit the Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases at Packard Children’s.
