Mobile app designed to enhance the patient experience

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health launched a new mobile app designed to help patients quickly find a doctor, call for an appointment, access their medical records and navigate the hospital campus.

One feature that may be very helpful to families is the ability to find a physician close to where they live. Parents can use the app to look up doctors within our network based on location and zip code. They can view services provided at each location and easily access directions with Google Maps.

“At Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, we are using technology to create continuous, supportive connections with our patients and families to help them lead the healthiest lives possible. This can be as important as clinical advancements,” said Natalie Pageler, MD, chief medical information officer.

Within the app, Stanford Medicine Children’s patients and families can also manage their MyChart health account and securely access test results, email their doctors, manage their appointments and view health information.  MyChart is the online health connection between patients, parents and providers.

The Stanford Medicine Children’s Health app is also designed to help visitors navigate and learn more about the features and art located in the Main Hospital building. One such example is a large, interactive mural on the main floor near the Sanctuary. While standing in front of the mural, users can click on the Spellbound™ Interactive Mural tile housed within the app and participate in a “seek and find.” It’s a photomontage to show the incredible richness and diversity of California’s environment. 3-D images of several of the animals will appear as a narrator tells you about the animal. A pictorial animal strip at the bottom of the mural provides a key for finding many of the hidden animals.

The app is one element in an overall digital strategy which includes the virtual care experience, such as telehealth visits, remote monitoring and emerging sensing technologies.

“As we grow our digital health strategy, we aim to implement leading-edge technologies to make it easy for children and families to access the right care whenever and wherever they need it, whether that is an urgent virtual visit or educational materials on handling behavioral challenges or an athlete development class for a rising young star,” Dr. Pageler added.

You can download the Stanford Medicine Children’s app for iOS or Android from the mobile device app stores.
